The last thing you need is to have no hot water in the shower, even though it can be quite warm during the winter months. Check your water tank. This is where you get the hot water from. Water tanks (or heaters) are often hidden in places such as your basement, attic or garage. The location of your water tank also impacts how quickly your water gets warm in your home.
Although your water tank may be the obvious cause of any problems with water heating, this is not the only reason. You can also look into other factors to determine why the water in your home isn’t warming up. If you are experiencing a lack of hot water in your shower, Clog Kings offer some tips.
Check the Temperature
It’s often the little things that matter. It may seem obvious to check the temperature of your water heater, but there are other factors that you should consider. Check for burned-out elements on an electric water heater. Water will only heat up for a brief period or may not heat up at all. The cold-water supply tube could be deteriorated on older models. The dip tube allows cold water to flow down to the burner and heat it. The cold water is not heated by the burner, but instead escapes to the hot water feed tube. This causes cold water to leak out. Check the temperature of your heater to eliminate this possibility.
Inspect the Water Tank!
Your water tank may be in your basement, attic or garage. The first thing to do is check the condition and age of the water tank. Water tanks, like many other appliances, will wear out over time. Check for leaks and the connections. Sometimes, your water heater’s connections may need tightening or even replaced. Check the anode rode, which is a steel cable coated with either magnesium or aluminum to prevent rusting of the water tank. Also check for any sediment buildup. The anode rode could be worn out or covered with sediment build-up if it is not heating.
Check Other Fixtures in the House
Check the temperature of hot water at other faucets around your house to determine if it is a problem with the water tank or the shower component. You may have a problem with the burner in your water tank if the temperature of hot water drops quickly. It could be that the dip tube is faulty if there’s no hot water at all. If all other faucets are running hot water then it could be your shower components.
Inspect Your Shower Valve
If the only area in your home that doesn’t get hot water is the shower, you may need to check your shower valve. Shower valves are responsible for mixing hot and cold water in order to achieve the ideal temperature. The valve may not work properly if the washers or the O-rings are worn out. It can lead to cold water coming out of the showerhead. If your shower valve is malfunctioning, you may need to replace these parts.
